Heroic achievement in connection with combat operations against the enemy while serving as a PJ in Raven 3, 24th STS, Joint Task Force Bronze. In support of Operation Crimson Veil, when Iron Troop was ambushed during a prisoner exchange, when the HVI was hit by enemy fire. Staff Sergeant Brown, under friendly covering fire and smoke concealment, rendered life-saving aide to the unarmed and cuffed patient before moving the casualty to cover. Staff Sergeant Brown risked machine gun and sniper fires in an open courtyard to save the high value individual wanted by J2 for their deep connection to enemy forces and strategic importance to the enemy. Numerous eyewitnesses account to Staff Sergeant Brown's haste to stabilize and move the patient out of harms way over 50 meters, and continue to render care until the HVI was extracted. By his courage under fire, personal initiative, and total dedication to duty, Staff Sergeant Sam Brown reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force. The combat distinguished device is authorized.
